Welcome from the Head of School
Thank you for visiting Emmanuel Junior Academy’s Website. We hope you will find it very informative and interesting.
Emmanuel prides itself on being a welcoming and friendly school, and its values and ethos are reflected well in the positive attitudes of pupils and staff.
I am absolutely thrilled as the Head of School to introduce you to Emmanuel Junior Academy. It is a fantastic school, set in the heart of Waterthorpe and the Emmanuel Complex, which includes Emmanuel Church and Waterthorpe Nursery and Infant School.
We have introduced a new and exciting curriculum and we encourage innovative practice and creativity building on the good work recognised by OFSTED.
"Pupils like the exciting experiences and the wide range of visitors and visits they make to find out about the world around them" (OFSTED 2018)
The curriculum is designed to serve our faith-based community of which we are so proud. We are proud members of the Diocese of Sheffield Academies Trust (DSAT) CLICK HERE.
WE ARE PROUD OF OUR CHILDREN, PROUD OF OUR ACHIEVEMENTS AND PROUD OF OUR COMMUNITY.
We are proud of what we achieve every day with our fabulous children. We are a good school with the ambition to be outstanding. We are very proud of the efforts of all our staff, children and families during the very challenging school closures in 2020 and 2021. We moved our learning online and we are very proud of what we achieved.
We feel confident that we can move our school to be an outstanding, world-class school over the next few years. We want to ensure that all our families are provided with the best education possible for their children. The school has a leadership and staff team who are passionate about education, who in partnership with the Governors and Trust leaders, are all committed to securing the best standards possible for the school. The leadership team are here to help all our children and parents.
Our potential to be outstanding comes from our amazing children, our committed staff, our inclusive and caring faith-based community and our committed and aspirational parents.
"A culture of care for the welfare of everyone in the school is given high priority. Respect for others and the importance of being a good friend are highly valued by pupils. Both were demonstrated strongly during the inspection" (OFSTED 2018)
All of these factors make Emmanuel an exciting place to work and a fabulous learning community to belong to. All of these aspects give us a ‘uniqueness’ as a school, which will certainly help us to stand out for all the right reasons. Our aim is for every child to achieve at the highest level they can but it is also very important to us that all children feel safe, secure and happy. Our children behave very well and have very positive attitudes to learning overall. It is a lovely place to be each day.
Our children’s attendance is fantastic overall because they and their families are committed to education and genuinely love coming to school.
The daily life of the school is built around being respectful, being courageous and being safe in all aspects of our learning and behaviour. These values, alongside a strong Christian ethos, support our children to develop into lifelong learners who are resilient, socially skilled, and successful in all aspects of their lives.
‘Be Respectful, Be Courageous, Be Safe’
A real strength of the school is our commitment to the whole child. We place an important emphasis on social play, breakfast club provision, pastoral support, a calm lunchtime experience, Collective Worship and sport. We are absolutely committed to working in partnership with our parents and our community and have strong relationships with Waterthorpe Infant and Nursery School, the Church, the Diocese and other DSAT schools.
We cannot achieve what we want to achieve without the help and support of our parents, carers and families. We recognise that all parents/carers are the primary educators of their children.
The thing that makes our school most special is the children. They are warm, welcoming and aspirational. They love to learn and are showing a fabulous attitude to school life, turning up with a smile each day for others.
Learning is at the heart of ALL we do and our aim is for every child to achieve excellence and to reach for the stars.
I look forward to working with you and getting to know your fantastic children during the year. Please feel very welcome to come and say hello and if you have any concerns or good news please come and share.
Mrs Jo Thorpe
