Modern Foreign Languages

Vision

At Emmanuel, we view French as an opportunity for children to experience the liberation of being opened up to other language and cultures that are different to their own community and surroundings. Through games, role play and song, pupils at Emmanuel will develop their vocabulary and pronunciation and leave us feeling confident enough to converse with others in their new language.

As well as being incredibly fun, language learning provides additional benefits such as improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration and sharper listening skills. We aim to start children on their language journey and provide the foundations ready for them to continue their learning in their secondary education as well as setting them up so that their cultural capital is enhanced and their life opportunities for living abroad are increased.

‘Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.’
