Maths

Vision

The language of mathematics is international. The basic skills of maths are vital for the life opportunities of our children. Our aim is for all children to think mathematically, enabling them to reason, solve problems and assess risk in a range of contexts. We want our children to confidently build connections, spot patterns and be able to apply their known number facts fluently and efficiently.

At Emmanuel, our Maths curriculum has been developed to ensure every child can achieve excellence. We want children to experience a sense of awe and wonder as they solve a problem for the first time, discover different solutions and make links between different areas of mathematics. Emmanuel seeks to provide pupils with a deep understanding of the subject through a mastery approach which develops and revisits learning over time. As with all learning in our school, language sits at the heart of maths, with teachers encouraging children to use full sentences, providing scaffolds for this and teaching specific mathematical vocabulary. We believe that applying maths knowledge is vital in order to encourage connections within and between subjects. Having a secure knowledge of Maths will give them the right tools to be ready in starting the next stage of their learning journey and future life experiences.
